Paul Ryan, congressman from Wisconsin and chairman of the House Budget Committee, recently published an article in the Wall Street Journal outlining our federal budget crisis and the urgency with which Washington needs to solve it.
Ryan points out that in the past two years since Democrats have controlled the Senate, they have failed to pass any sort of budget. Considering that this is one of the primary responsibilities of our governing representatives, Ryan calls this a “historic failure.”
At the same time, the president has used the debt ceiling as a poker chip, in an attempt to pass the tax increases his party needs to fund their runaway spending. Fortunately he lost that hand, as republicans were able to pass some initial spending restraints.
